Alvin Ailey was a Black and LGBTQ+ icon who revolutionized modern dance and black identity.  But throughout his life, he was underappreciated. A product of a time when black and LGTBQ+ performers were denied the spotlight they deserved.  "Letters to Mr. Ailey" is a moving tribute inviting people to write personal letters to Alvin Ailey—sharing how his work has touched their lives. These handwritten notes were displayed at The Whitney alongside the Edges of Ailey exhibition, turning a gallery wall into a living monument of gratitude. More than a campaign, it became a conversation across time—between the man who gave movement a voice and those still inspired by it today.
